In memory of Giuseppe Alberigo’s fervour and wealth of critical studies, FSCIRE, to which he dedicated 54 years of his life, announces the fourth edition of the Giuseppe Alberigo Award.

It will reward scholars engaged in a field of religious science, whether historical, exegetical, theological or other, without any form of limitation concerning the type of study. The sole requirement is that recipients must have achieved scientific excellence in their field of research.

Two categories are foreseen: one is for an established scholar (Senior), the other for an early career scholar under the age of 40 (Junior) who has written a monograph (whether published or not). The award, that must be spent on research activity, consists in:

• € 7,000 (Category Senior) 

• € 4,000 (Category Junior)

​

Candidacies must be presented by the authors themselves and/or third parties – scholars, centres, journals, editors, associations, academies or departments – provided that they are registered members of the European Academy of Religion (EuARe), by sending a paper or digital copy of their books published within the last three years, or works that have yet to be published. Every candidacy must be accompanied by a brief presentation of the particular aspects of the volume, the curriculum vitae of its author(s), and the indication of the category of the Award applied for.

1. Volumes must be sent by 26 April 2024 to: Fondazione per le scienze religiose Giovanni XXIII, via San Vitale, 114 – 40125 Bologna, or to: segreteria@fscire.it; 

2. the list of all the works presented will be drawn up by 30 April 2024;

3. by 10 May 2024 the members of the Fondazione per le scienze religiose will carry out one or more secret ballots until the absolute majority is reached in order to select three finalists and the winner in each category;

4. the three finalists will be invited to present their work during the Award Ceremony, at the annual convention of EuARe (Palermo, 20-23 May 2024).
