Call for Scholarship. Vatican II – Legacy and Mandate. Intercontinental Commentary: Reception and Orientations for the Life of the Church

​The Faculty of Theology of the Philosophical-Theological College Vallendar (working place Vallendar) is looking for a Scientific Coordinator in the framework of the international research project Vatican II - Legacy and Mandates Intercontinental Commentary: Reception and Orientations for the Life of the Church (26 hour per week).

​

The position, with the possibility of its own scientific research, is initially limited to three years and will be remunerated based on TV-L.

​

The project is an international commentary on the documents of the Second Vatican Council. This commentary is based on close collaboration of scientists from all continents. It is based on studies on hermeneutics, on the texts of the Council and on the reception of the Council, which are obtained from five continental study groups.

​

This work is an open process, the concrete realization and dynamics of which take place in the cooperation between commentators and study groups. The project is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Joachim Schmiedl (Vallendar) in cooperation with Prof. Dr. med. Margit Eckholt (Osnabrück), Prof. dr. Peter Hünermann (Tübingen) and Prof. Dr. med. Klaus Vellguth (Vallendar).

The Study Center on Freedom of Religion and Belief (LIREC), as part of its "Knowledge Project" (https://lirec.net/attivita/), organizes the conference The movements of human potential. Pathways and paths for personal development in secularized society.

 

The intent is above all to provide a correct information on organizations whose history and philosophy go back rather far back in time (in particular, to the Enlightenment). The focus will be on movements that, while not identifying with a specific form of religiosity, refer, however, to specific values ​​that are on the border between the spiritual and philosophic dimension.

 

The conference intends to provide the historical, philosophical, ethical, psychological and sociological references necessary for the understanding of this galaxy of groups, whose diffusion sometimes arouses controversies and debates. The movements of human potential, in fact, are placed within a context characterized by otherness: a typical trait is the development of "alternative" techniques to deal with the problems related to the health of the mind and body, which wants to join or oppose traditional medicine. On this path we often create new habits of community life, ranging from diet to learning: models often arbitrarily stigmatized as fraudulent or harmful that, looking beyond diversity, are rather a useful starting point for reflection on the freedom of consciousness.

 

The conference, which is held under the patronage of the European Academy of Religion, will take place on Friday, November 9th, 2-6 pm, at the Pontificia Università Salesiana (Piazza dell'Ateneo Salesiano, 1 - Aula 3, Primo piano).

Call for Applications. ReIReS Transnational Access to Special Collections and Archival Documents

The EU funded project “Research Infrastructure on Religious Studies” (ReIReS) offer scholarships for researchers from the member states of the EU and from the countries associated to Horizon 2020 on historical religious studies at fourteen facilities located in European research centers and universities in Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, and Italy.

​​

All these centers and libraries grant access to collections of manuscripts, documents and rare books and represent relevant collections of Christian, Jewish and Muslim documents and books which allow studies concerning religious studies and inter-religious and inter-confessional dialogue throughout history.

​

Scholars can apply for a transnational access scholarship to consult each of these special collections and libraries (excluding those belonging to the user country) in order to develop innovative and groundbreaking investigations in historical religious studies.

 

Applications are welcome before August 19, 2019. Scholars, experts in historical religious studies or curators of special collections and archives are encouraged to apply.

The academic mission of the Loyola Institute, Trinity College Dublin is to engage in teaching and research at the creative intersection of theology, Church and society. In this perspective, we are offering a Ph.D. scholarship which will fully cover Trinity universities fees, plus an annual award of 12,000 € for maintenance, for a period of three years.

 

Possible research questions include, but are not limited to:

  • A theological vision of human freedom;

  • The writings of Rowan Williams as a source of a theology for the secular;

  • Church and media in contemporary societies;

  • Fake news, post-truth and the pursuit of truth;

  • The Gospel and social media;

  • The Catholic Church as a corporate citizen within pluralist or secular societies;

  • The Church and engagement with contemporary political culture;

  • The revival of interest in natural law;

  • A theological vision of redeemed reality that includes the economic, social, and political.

 

The scholarship is being made available thanks to generous private funding.

The European Observatory of Religion and Secularism (Laïcité) in partnership with the Faculty of Comparative Study of Religion and Humanism (FVG), LIREC (Rome), CLIMAS (Bordeaux), and CESNUR (Turin) is organizing a conference on the Ahmadis and Ahmadiyya to be held in Antwerp, May 23-24, 2019.

 

Paper proposals will be received until March 30th, 2019.

The Conference is advertised by the Center for Studies on Freedom of Religion, Belief and Conscience (LIREC) and follows the successful panel held at the EuARe First Annual Conference last March, The Ahmadiyya Muslim Movement: "Love for all, Hatred for none". ReIReS officially launched in Bologna

The Horizon 2020 funded project “Research Infrustructure on Religious Studies” (ReIReS) held its kick-off meeting in Bologna, March 7-8, 2018. Participants from 12 European institutions from 7 countries met to discuss the project’s organization, to learn how they can best collaborate using each other’s competences, as well as to gain insight into the further development of the project.

​

ReIReS starting community consists of twelve institutions (including EuARe members) whose aim is to create a unique and groundbreaking research infrastructure on religious studies within the European Research Area and to improve the access of scholars from all over the world to the data, information and sources concerning the study of the historical and cultural influence of the plural religious heritage in the European history. Dealing with the need for an appropriate comprehension of a complex and multicultural society, ReIReS consortium works towards the improvement of the integrated services of the partners. It aims to establish a distributed RI with a sustainable plan of activities, including offering access to a wide range of high-level data and tools for advancing knowledge and innovation in the understanding of inter-religious society.
